Postdoc position on "Touch simulation and haptic rendering"

The TouchDesign ERC Consolidator Grant is an excellence project funded by the European Commission. Its overall goal is to define a formal and comprehensive computational design methodology for haptic synthesis, applied to both tactile digital communication and to computational design and fabrication of objects with desired tactile properties. The project seeks scientific breakthroughs in contact biomechanics, perceptual modeling, numerical optimization, and computational design.

Job description

We seek a postdoc researcher to work on novel touch simulation and rendering methods, which will advance our ways of interacting through virtual touch. The research project is broad, and the candidate will enjoy freedom to choose specific research problems. The choices include but are not limited to: modeling of tactile biomechanics, modeling of tactile perception, interactive simulation methods for natural phenomena, rendering algorithms for cutting-edge haptic technology (exoskeletons, ultrasound haptics, surface haptics), machine learning applied to tactile modeling and simulation, etc.

We offer a renewable 1-year contract, with a gross salary of 36,400€. This is a highly competitive salary in Madrid. The candidate is expected to join on January 1, 2022. Extension of the contract to 2 or max. 3 years is possible if it matches the candidate's career plans.

Candidates should hold a PhD in computer science, physics, mathematics, telecommunications, or some related engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, etc.). If you are close to finishing your PhD and you wish to apply, please email us. Candidates should have a track record of publications in computer graphics, haptics, virtual reality and/or robotics. The following skills will be valued:

  • Numerical methods and algorithms applied to physics-based simulation.
  • Programming skills in C++, Python, CUDA, etc.
  • Experience with haptics and/or virtual reality hardware, and/or human factors.

The strict deadline for applications is August 13. To apply, please fill this form and submit the required material. Note: the form is in Spanish, but you may automatically translate it into e.g. English on your browser. In this link you will find tips to fill the form. After filling and submitting the form, it outputs a confirmation page. Please email this page to jobs@mslab.es

If you have any questions about the position or the application process, please don't hesitate to email us at jobs@mslab.es
